How to use basic Chanserv
(You may not be able to use all these commands, and this is not a conclusive list. To use a command, please remove the square brackets around it)
A SOP or SuperOPerater is someone who has control over all parts of the room, and is an administrator. SOPs have the symbol ~ or & in front of their name. The SOP specific chanserv, for instance how to give someone SOPs has not been included here as it is irrelevant.
PM [/msg nickname message]
This sends a private message to a user that the rest of the channel cannot read. Please ask in #ED before private-messaging someone you don't know.
IDENTIFY as your username (in order to use Chanserv) [/ns IDENTIFY password]
This allows you to identify as yourself if you have not already identified. This can only be done if you have registered your nickname.This can be done with the command [/ns register password email] when using the nickname you want.
OP [/cs op #ed nickname]
Having channel OPs gives you an @ symbol in front of your name, and the power to moderate the room, kick and ban. OPs in #ED are trusted users who have been around for some time.
De-OP [/cs deop #ed nickname]
De-opping a user takes OP status away from them. This can only be done by SOPs.
Auto-OP [/cs aop #ed add nickname]
This command adds users to the Auto-OP list for the channel, and means that every time they join, the get OPerator status. This can only be done by SOPs
De-Auto-OP [/cs aop #ed del nickname]
This command removes people from the Auto-OP list. This can only be done by SOPs
List Auto-OPs [/cs aop #ed list]
This command lists everyone on the list to get Auto-OPs when they join chat.
HOP [/cs halfop #ed nickname]
This command gives Half-OPs to a user. HOPs have % symbol in front of their names. HOPs are users that have been around for a period of time, and are trusted in the channel.
De-HOP [/cs dehalfop #ed nickname]
This command removes HOP status from a user.
Auto-HOP [/cs hop #ed add nickname]
This command adds users to the Auto-HOP list for the channel, and means that every time they join, the get Half- OPerator status. This can only be done by SOPs
De-Auto-HOP [/cs hop #ed del nickname]
This command removes people from the Auto-HOP list. This can only be done by SOPs
List Auto-Hops [/cs hop #ed list]
This command lists everyone on the list to get Auto-HOPs when they join chat.
VOP [/cs voice #ed nickname]
This command voices a user in the channel. It should be given to all trusted users when they join the channel, and to anyone not involved in an altercation if the channel is moderated. It gives the user a + sign in front of their name, and allows them to talk whether or not the channel is moderated. HOPs and OPs are welcome to VOP users.

De-VOPping a user takes VOP status away from them.

This command adds users to the Auto-VOP list for the channel, and means that every time they join, the get VOP or Voiced OPerator status. This can only be done by SOPs

Moderating the room [/cs mode #ed m]
This command sets the room so only people with VOPs or voice status (+ symbol) can talk in chat. It is usually done if there are trolls, or people causing trouble who refuse to stop.
Unmoderating the room [/cs mode #ed -m]
This command unmoderates the room, so that anyone can speak. It should be done as soon as the trouble ends.
Kick [/cs kick #ed nickname reason]
This command kicks someone from the room, meaning they are ejected. They can return though. This should be used in an emergency.
Ban [/cs mode #ed +b *@whateverfollows the symbol in their ident]
Banning users needs to remain a last resort. This bans a user from chat until such a time as a SOP lifts the ban. This can be timed, or permanent.
A-Kick (to be used if someone sneaks round a Ban) [/cs akick #ed add *@whatever follows the symbol in their ident]
This should be used if someone returns once they are banned, and should also be updated regularly by a SOP
